Guide
Approach and anchoring
The buoys form a three-point mooring system with boats packed close, and boatmen must assist. Buoys could not be booked in 2025, and in August 2025 arrivals waited hours for a slot. In 2025 the seasonal field closed on 1 September. The bottom drops off steeply, with weed closer in. Boats anchor outside the field in 12 to 15 m with 40 to 50 m of chain. In westerly to northerly winds, gusts can fall from the heights into the bay.
Practical
A 30-foot yacht paid 30 euros a night on a buoy in August 2025. A 14 m yacht paid 40 euros a night in July 2026. In August 2025 the attendant held crew ID until the fee was paid at the marina office. Dinghies tie up at the head of the harbour pontoons. A free drinking-water machine stands behind the bus stop. Rubbish and engine oil can be left by the fishing-boat canal. Small supermarkets are in the port and the upper town.
Ashore
The upper town and its fortress are about 20 minutes uphill on foot, by the old Roman road, or by bus. Marked trails cross the island, including a botanical walk and a route to the crater lake, with little shade. Shops in the port sell local cheese and honey. La Garrita is one of the restaurants.
