Approach and anchoring

Approach from the east or southeast, rounding the headland at a distance of at least 300 metres to clear the rocks below the lighthouse. Bottom is sand with posidonia patches, so drop on a clear sand circle to avoid damaging the seagrass and losing the hook; holding is good even in a fresh westerly, in around 10 metres, though the wind swirls inside the bay. Shelter from W, SW and S winds; fully open to easterly swell, and the roadstead turns untenable if a swell sets in at night, so be ready to leave.

Practical

No facilities on the anchorage. Port du Pilon 4.3 nm to the NW in the Canebiers bay and Saint-Tropez harbour 4.4 nm to the NW offer full marina services and fuel. Summer marine reserve zones are signposted, check ZMEL limits before dropping.

Ashore

Cap Camarat lighthouse stands 129 metres above sea level, the second tallest in France after Ile Vierge. An underwater trail runs at the foot of the promontory toward the beach. Plage de l'Escalet lies 1 km south, plage de Pampelonne with its beach clubs stretches north of the cape.
