Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south on a clear bearing, anchoring on sand in 4 to 6 m, good holding, Posidonia patches to avoid. Shelter from NW through N and NE, and from W and SW for boats tucked well in under the western point, where it has held in 25 to 30 knots WSW while 2 to 3 m ran outside. It rolls with any E or ESE swell even when the forecast looks kind, so leave on a forecast of east wind. Two channels cross the bay to the sailing-school launch areas: keep clear of them and expect zodiac traffic by day. A few unmarked buoys for small craft lie at the head of the bay.

Practical

No services on site. Port de Cavalaire lies 4.8 nm west with visitor berths, fuel and full marina services. Port du Pilon at Saint-Tropez is 5 nm north.

Ashore

Land the tender on l'Escalet beach, where there are showers and bins in the car park. A summer bus from the beach runs to Ramatuelle and drops at the U supermarket for provisions, its loop also passing Pampelonne beach. The coastal path leads south round Cap Taillat, and ice-cream boats work the anchorage in season.
