Anchorage in the bay off the town of Bouillante, on the leeward coast of Basse-Terre, sand and weed bottom, sheltered from NE through SE.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Easy approach and good holding, but open to the west and very rolly in any swell. The town's mooring zone plans 20 moorings in the bay, and the first eco-moorings were laid in July 2026: inside the zone, anchoring off the moorings is to be banned.
Practical
No pontoon or water point at the anchorage according to Navily. The Îlets Pigeon are 2.4 nm north, Anse à la Barque 2.4 nm south.
Ashore
The Bouillante geothermal power station has run since 1986, with 15 MW installed. The Source chaude de Thomas at Pointe Joubert, about 70 °C, forms a natural pool in the sea.
Story
The Augustin Fresnel, a 53 m former lighthouse service cargo ship, was sunk in 2003 at 30 m between the town and Anse à la Barque and is now dived for its 15 cabins and outside gangways.
