Approach and anchoring

Approach from the bay of La Baule, keeping clear of the Pouliguen channel markers to the north. Sand bottom, good holding. Rocky patches lie to the north and south, so stay within the line of local moorings on clean sand. The inner part dries at low water and boats can take the ground on the sand; anchor far enough out to stay afloat, or work the neaps close in. Open to the east and south-east, and a westerly or southerly swell wraps round the headland and sets up a roll.

Practical

No services on site; land at the dinghy dock on the beach. Le Pouliguen harbour lies 0.6 NM to the north-west for fuel, water and provisioning. Pornichet marina sits 2.9 NM to the east as a larger fallback with full services.

Ashore

La Baule beach, 9 km long, is reachable by tender. Le Pouliguen old salt-working village is a 15 minute walk from the harbour head, with the Saturday morning market on place de la Duchesse-Anne.
