Approach and anchoring

Approach from seaward and watch the rocky edges on either side of the bay. Anchor on the large sandy patch in the middle in 5 to 12 metres, holding is good and has held 30 knots of NW wind, but keep off the boulders around 8 to 9 metres that lie half buried in the sand. Exposed to W and NW winds including the libeccio, when a swell sets in and the bay rolls. Calvi harbour lies 2.9 NM to the NE as a solid refuge.

Practical

No services in the bay. Sand gives good hold. Fuel, water and full marina services at Calvi 2.9 NM NE, or Port Eugene Ceccaldi at Ile Rousse 6.7 NM NE.

Ashore

The Revellata lighthouse stands on the cape to the west, and the coastal path from Calvi to the Revellata passes above the bay with views over the Balagne coastline. A restaurant stands just back from the beach, a short walk from the shore. The beach is coarse pebbles and landing a dinghy is awkward, easiest with a grapnel off the bow and a line to the rocks.

Story

The waters off the Revellata are used by the Stareso oceanographic station, run by the University of Liege since 1972, for continuous study of Mediterranean posidonia meadows.
