Guide
Approach and anchoring
Wide open approach from the west. Anchor by 4 to 10 metres towards the centre of the bay. The bottom mixes sand and weed over a sometimes thin layer that turns to gravel near the beach, so look for clear sand, keep off the weed and dive on the anchor, as holding is not always reliable. There are no 300 metre marker buoys here, so boats can lie close to the beach, rare on this coast. Exposed to westerly swell and no refuge in a strong blow from that quarter, so clear out when a westerly is forecast. Comfortable in winds from the northern and eastern sectors, with one side of the bay better sheltered from the prevailing swell.
Practical
Water point ashore. No other services. Galéria 3.7 NM to the south, Calvi marina 6.7 NM to the north-east with fuel, chandlery and full shops.
Ashore
Plage de Crovani, a 1.5 km pebble and sand beach. Ruins of the Argentella silver and lead mine 1 km inland, worked in the 19th century. Sentier du littoral towards the Tour de Truccia, a Genoese watchtower on the northern point of the bay.
History
The Argentella mine, behind the bay, produced lead and silver from 1845 until the early 20th century. The ore was loaded onto boats from a jetty whose remains can still be seen on the northern shore.
