Marina of 1 500 berths at Antibes between Nice and Cannes, known for its Quai des Milliardaires reserved for superyachts.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Baie des Anges, entry between the Fort Carre and the old city ramparts, well buoyed and lit at night. Prevailing winds from E and SE raise swell in the approach, the Levant breeze can be strong in summer afternoons. VHF 9. Max draught 4 m on most pontoons, deeper berths on the Quai des Milliardaires. The marina is large and some pontoons lie a good walk from the office, while the Vieux Port berths sit right by the old town. The passage between the two inner basins is tight for a boat of around 13 m without a bow thruster, so call the office for a Zodiac to help with the manoeuvre.
Practical
Capitainerie open all year, with berthing assistance on arrival, a tender to guide boats in, a dockhand to take lines and a golf cart to the check-in and to the edge of the old town on request. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol at the entrance, water and electricity on every pontoon, sanitary blocks with showers and laundry. Water and electricity are billed as a flat daily charge added to the quoted berth price, around 8 to 12 euros a day rather than metered, so check the bill. Crane and small yard on the south side. Chandlers, sailmakers and crew agencies along avenue du 11 Novembre.
Ashore
Plage de la Gravette at the north quay inside the ramparts, sheltered sand beach. Musee Picasso in the Chateau Grimaldi on the old town cliff, opened in 1966 with 245 works donated by the artist. Marche provencal cours Massena every morning except Monday, 300 m from the quay.
History
The port takes its name from Vauban who fortified Antibes from 1682 onward, the Fort Carre at the north of the harbour was built from 1565 under Henri II and reworked by Vauban. Picasso lived and painted in the Chateau Grimaldi in 1946 before donating his work to the town.
Story
The Quai des Milliardaires regularly berths some of the world's largest private yachts including vessels over 100 m, and has hosted boats such as Maltese Falcon and A.
