Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Rade de Brest on a northerly heading into the cove. Sand bottom with good holding, though shelter is limited in stronger winds as the shore is low. Old mooring chains on the bottom can foul an anchor, so buoy it. Sheltered from S, SW, W and NW, open to the north and north-east across the rade. The Le Fret ferry crosses at speed several times a day and throws a wake through the bay, so anchor towards the holiday park to lie clear of it. Camaret-sur-Mer harbours lie 3.5 nm to the west for all-weather refuge.

Practical

Forain anchorage with a small slipway and seasonal pontoon used by local boats, plus a few mooring buoys near the slipway. Shops, a small supermarket, bar and restaurants in Le Fret village within 300 m of the beach.

Ashore

Passenger ferry Le Fret to Brest runs from the small pier. The GR 34 sentier des douaniers runs along the coast, giving access to Pointe des Espagnols 6 km west. Crozon peninsula beaches and the Mémorial de la bataille de l'Atlantique are within cycling distance.
