Approach and anchoring
Buoys off the Pointe Saint-Gildas, most of them let on annual subscription. The sand bottom holds well, and one crew rode out gusts to 37 knots in 6 to 7 metres. Shelter is poor when the wind comes in from the north or north-east, when the buoys can chop through the night.
Practical
Around 33 euros a night. A shuttle runs between the anchorage and the port on its timetable. The slipway is wide and reached with a pass booked online, with a large car park for trailers close by. The harbour office gives local information.
Ashore
Shops and restaurants at Préfailles are a short way from the landing.
History
Houat was evacuated by the British in 1795 during the Quiberon expedition. The current village was rebuilt after a cyclone destroyed most houses in 1951.
