Anchorage at the mouth of the Aber Wrac'h in north Finistère, sand and mud bottom, just west of the fairway leading up to the marina.

Approach and anchoring

Enter the Aber Wrac'h on the buoyed channel from the west, then leave the chenal to starboard before the marina. Boats also push on towards the town, past the last starboard tower but short of the safe water mark, anchoring in about 2.5 m at low water on mud that holds well and rowing to the marina. Extensive mussel and oyster beds line the shelf, their stakes covering at high water and showing at low, so keep clear. Strong tidal streams, plan the approach near slack. Shelter from W through S to SE, lively in a hard NW.

Practical

Useful waiting anchorage before or after tide. The marina of L'Aber Wrac'h is 0.6 NM east with fuel and all services, and takes tenders alongside, often without a charge, with good showers that need no code. The hamlet of Perroz is 1 NM east.

Ashore

Le Pot de Beurre behind the marina serves a menu du jour around 22 euros, with two or three more restaurants a couple of minutes walk. A tabac sells basics such as bread and milk, and a supermarket is about 20 minutes walk uphill.
