Tidal marina on the north coast of Finistère, at the mouth of the Aber Wrac'h ria, 223 berths.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach via the Grand Chenal between Île Vierge and Libenter plateau, then the Malouine and Petit Pot de Beurre channels. Fully buoyed and lit, usable day and night with care on springs. Watch for strong cross tides near Libenter. The outer western pontoon is exposed and uncomfortable in a north-easterly, so ask for an inner berth in that wind. VHF 9. Max draught 3 m on visitor pontoons.
Practical
Around 223 berths on floating pontoons plus visitor mooring buoys off the port at around 40 euros against about 49 for a pontoon berth. Diesel at the fuel berth, with no water there. Water, electricity and laundry at the capitainerie, the showers dated and sometimes lukewarm with a refit under way. The office clears customs and immigration paperwork for non-EU crews, a common check-in point from Ireland and Cornwall, and lends bikes for the roughly 20 minute walk up to Landéda for the bakery, grocery and restaurants. The harbour café sells bread from early morning.
Ashore
GR34 coastal path runs along the ria, with the Île Vierge lighthouse visible offshore at 82.5 m, the tallest stone lighthouse in Europe. Sainte-Marguerite dunes and beach at 2 km. Landéda village centre at 400 m from the pontoons.
History
L'Aber Wrac'h served as a staging port for transatlantic seaplanes in the 1920s and 1930s. The Île Vierge lighthouse, built in 1902, stands 82.5 m high and remains the tallest traditional lighthouse in Europe.
