Guide
Approach and anchoring
Open approach from the south; a night arrival is awkward past the long buoyed dinghy channel into the marina, where depth shoals fast near the breakwater. Anchor on sand in 3 to 6 m outside the yellow buoy line and clear of that channel, holding good and tolerated by the passing gendarmerie. Watch for charted submarine cables close by. Protection from NE through SE, open to the west and the mistral from the NW. Yachting Club de la Pointe Rouge lies 0.2 NM SW as a refuge in a blow.
Practical
Forain anchorage with no facilities. Port de la Pointe Rouge, 0.3 NM SW, has visitor berths, water, diesel and a fuel berth.
Ashore
Land the dinghy inside the Pointe Rouge marina, close to the bus-boat stop, for the shops and restaurants of the quarter about ten minutes away. Small pebble beach and the 16th century chapel of Saint-Joseph that gave the cove its name. Bus line 83 runs along the Corniche Kennedy to central Marseille about 8 km to the NW. Calanques National Park boundary begins at Callelongue roughly 4 km south along the coast. Evenings can be noisy from the busy seafront.
