Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east along the Marseille coast, rounding the Pointe Rouge headland. Entry between two short moles, lit at night. Shelter good from N to E, poor from SW swell which works into the basin. Maximum draught 2.2 metres. Mistral funnels down the coast from NW.
Practical
Small port managed by the commune with no harbourmaster's office, mainly occupied by local pointus and fishermen. There is effectively no visitor berthing, only an emergency dock and a small pontoon used by the shuttle boats that run on Sundays and public holidays. The quay can be noisy at night with crowds ashore, even midweek. Bakery, cafés and fishmonger on the quay. Bus 20 to central Marseille from the village square.
Ashore
Calanques National Park boundary starts at the harbour entrance, created 2012. Coastal path GR 98 towards Callelongue at 2 km east and on into the Calanque de Marseilleveyre at 4 km. Île Maïre and Îles de Riou archipelago visible offshore, Natura 2000 marine zone. Port de la Madrague at 1.1 NM N for alternative berthing.
History
Goudes was a fishing hamlet long before joining Marseille, noted on 18th century charts as a shelter for the anchovy fleet. The pointus moored here are direct descendants of the Provençal fishing skiffs built in Marseille yards through the 19th century.
