Île de Ré and the Pertuis Breton: tidal harbours and anchorages

14 places · Charente-Maritime

Along the north coast of Ré, facing the Pertuis Breton, every harbour runs on the tide, with a 6 m range at springs. Saint-Martin opens its lock 3 hours before high water and shuts it 2 to 2.5 hours after; the entrance is rough in a strong northwesterly or northeasterly. Ars has two sill basins at the head of the Fier, with the waiting anchorage off Pointe de la Patache. La Flotte dries at every tide and bans anchoring in its Arnérault and Clavette zones. Across the Pertuis, the Sèvre Niortaise leads to Marans through the Brault lock, worked by day only and booked 24 hours ahead.
