Guide

Approach and anchoring

Access from the Pertuis Breton through the Fier d'Ars, a shallow lagoon reached by a buoyed channel close to 3 NM long. Come in on a rising tide near high water and follow the buoys rather than the chart, keeping mid channel and favouring the red marks, as the green side silts and boats ground fast there. A depth gauge and a waiting pontoon stand at the entrance. The basin dries at low water and boats take the ground on soft silt without harm. VHF 9, and call ahead as reservations are not taken.

Practical

550 berths including visitor places on the catways. Water and electricity at the berths, though water is rationed to filling tanks, and electricity resets every 24 hours. Fuel berth and a spotless sanitary block with showers, and the WiFi is fast. Passeport Escales is not always accepted, so expect to pay, around 65 to 76 euros for two nights on a boat of about 10 metres. Village shops, bakery and daily market within 300 metres, though prices run high.

Ashore

Saturday and Wednesday market on place Carnot, 250 m from the quay. The bell tower of Saint-Étienne church, painted black and white as a daymark, stands 400 m from the harbour. Cycle path along the former salt marshes toward Loix, 4 km east.
