Inland marina at the head of the Sèvre Niortaise canal in the Marais Poitevin, 24 km from the sea, maximum draught 1.4 m.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Baie de l'Aiguillon through the canalised Sèvre Niortaise. A lock at Le Brault opens around high water, so passage is by day and near high water only; allow about three hours to work in or out. A second lock at Marans gives access to the basin. Fixed bridges limit air draught, and the opening bridge no longer lifts for sailing craft on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Well inland, the basin gives full shelter in heavy weather.
Practical
Visitor berths along the town quay with water and electricity. Sanitary block. Small and medium shops, bakery and supermarket within the town, all within 500 m of the quay.
Ashore
Marais Poitevin wetlands start immediately west of the town, with hire of flat-bottomed punts on the Sèvre. Towpath for walking and cycling along the canal toward Damvix and Coulon.
