Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin: the lagoon islets
11 places · Guadeloupe
Between Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin is a 150 km² bay closed off by a coral barrier, the longest in the Lesser Antilles, with 2 to 5 metres of water inside. Its islets, Caret, Fajou and La Biche, lie in the core of the national park: use the park's moorings where there are any, otherwise set the anchor in sand or mud and keep the chain off seagrass and coral. Keep under 5 knots within 300 metres of shore and near anchored boats, and 75 metres off bird colonies. Sainte-Rose lies on the Basse-Terre side, Baie-Mahault at the head, Petit-Canal and Port-Louis on Grande-Terre.
