Approach and anchoring
Entry through a lock 75 feet long by 19 feet wide off the ICW, about half a mile south of the Pinckney Island Bridge near mile 558. Worked by the harbour master from 0800 to 1900, or around the clock by keycard.
Practical
A 15.5-acre basin with 258 berths, held at a constant level by the lock so there is no current or tidal range inside. The South Carolina Yacht Club sits within the marina.
Story
Windmill Harbour is one of only three private locked harbours on the United States east coast. The still water inside the lock also limits barnacle growth on hulls.
