- Harbour
Private inland harbour inside the gated Wexford community on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with 280 berths reserved for residents.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Broad Creek through a lock system, one of only three on the United States east coast. The lock holds the 37-acre harbour at a near-constant 8 feet, free of tidal range, and gives 24-hour access. Lock transit takes around ten minutes. Boats up to 70 feet and 19 feet of beam.
Practical
The harbour serves Wexford property owners only and is not open to transient boats. Of the 280 berths, 138 lie behind private homes and the rest behind the clubhouse.
History
The Wexford community and its harbour were established in 1982 on a 525-acre site, with more than 4 miles of concrete partition built to control tidal movement.
