Approach and anchoring
Wilton Creek is a deep-water inlet off the Piankatank River, with quick access to the river and Chesapeake Bay. The bottom is mud and the creek is closed in on every side, giving all-round shelter. Hold to the channel on the way in, as the surrounding water shoals.
Practical
Regent Point Marina lies 4.1 miles north and Deltaville Boatyard 4.4 miles east, both for fuel, repairs and supplies. The Deltaville area has more than 35 marinas and yards within a short run.
History
In August 1863, Confederate raider Lieutenant John Taylor Wood and his men were camped at Wilton Creek when a Union patrol boat came up the creek at dawn to check reports of rebel activity. A gunfight followed and the Union party was driven off, its commander mortally wounded.
