Approach and anchoring

Enter the East River from Mobjack Bay and follow the buoyed channel upstream. The river holds good depth well past Williams Wharf, while Put In Creek itself is a narrow tidal branch that shoals towards Mathews Court House. Tidal range is modest, around half a metre.

Practical

Mud bottom with good holding, and shelter from north through south. Zimmerman Marine boatyard lies 0.6 nm to the south-west for haul-out and repairs. Compass Marina is 2.3 nm to the south.

Ashore

Mathews Court House village sits near the head of Put In Creek, with shops and the 1792 courthouse green. The Mathews Maritime Foundation museum covers the county's shipbuilding past.
