Anchorage on the Eastern Shore of the upper Chesapeake Bay, about 3 miles south of the Sassafras River mouth, in Kent County, Maryland.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
There are two anchoring areas. The outer anchorage opens off a small beach and takes the wash from passing boats. The inner anchorage, reached through a narrow but well-marked passage, is far better sheltered. Depths run 6 to 10 feet through both. Mud bottom, with cover from W round through S to SE.
Ashore
A small beach at the head of the cove suits swimming and walking the dog. A short tender run leads into Churn Creek, while flat open water extends about 2 miles for paddling kayaks and stand-up boards.
Story
Still Pond water is usually free of the stinging sea nettles common further down the Bay, which makes the cove a reliable swimming stop in midsummer.
