Anchorage in the Vinoy Basin on the Tampa Bay waterfront of St. Petersburg, Florida. Sand bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from Tampa Bay into the basin north of the city marinas. Shelter is good from NW through SW winds, but an easterly wind sends a surge into the basin and the anchorage becomes rough. Watch for derelict craft and respect the local anchoring limits.
Ashore
Vinoy Park and the North Bay Trail run along the waterfront, with the city centre and its restaurants within a short walk. The Cross Bay Ferry to Tampa boards from the basin. The Vinoy Marina lies 0.5 mile west and the Municipal Marina 0.6 mile south-west.
