Approach and anchoring
Navigation on the Seine between the Vives-Eaux lock downstream and the Varennes lock upstream. Maximum draught 2.5 m. Commercial barges run regularly, keep clear of the channel when mooring or casting off.
Practical
25 berths on pontoons, water and shore power, WC on site. Small supermarket and bakery at 800 m in the village. Melun railway station, on the Gare de Lyon line, at 3 km.
Ashore
Forêt de Fontainebleau northern edge at 4 km south, 25,000 hectares of sandstone bluffs and oak forest. Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte at 7 km, seventeenth century residence by Le Vau, Le Brun and Le Nôtre. Église Saint-Étienne of Le Mée, twelfth century rural church, at 1 km.
History
Le Mée-sur-Seine was a farming commune until the twentieth century expansion of Melun. The painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot lived and painted at Le Mée on several occasions between 1817 and 1871, and a memorial bust marks the house he stayed in.
