Approach and anchoring
Reached via the Seine to Saint-Mammès, then southbound into the canalised Loing. Max draught 1.5 m. Locks on the Canal du Loing have standard French inland dimensions. Low bridges limit air draught for masted yachts, which must unstep before entry.
Practical
About 30 berths along the town quay. Water and basic power on the quay. Shops, bakeries and restaurants in Moret old town within 300 m. Train station Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons on the Paris Gare de Lyon line.
Ashore
Walled medieval town with the Porte de Bourgogne and Porte de Samois gates from the 12th century, the Maison de Sisley dedicated to the Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley who lived and died here, and a riverside walk along the Loing. Forest of Fontainebleau trailheads at about 4 km.
History
Fortified town on the former border of the royal domain with Burgundy. Alfred Sisley settled in Moret-sur-Loing in 1889 and painted the Loing, the church and the town gates until his death in 1899.
