Fishing harbour on the Pays Bigouden coast of Finistère, at the western tip of the Penmarc'h peninsula, south Brittany.

Approach and anchoring
Exposed entry between rock ledges. Dangerous in heavy SW swell, breakers on the Étocs reefs to the west. Phare d'Eckmühl to the south, 65 m tall, serves as the main landfall. VHF 9. Penmarc'h lies 1.6 NM to the SE and Le Guilvinec 4.3 NM to the east for safer shelter in bad weather.
Practical
Working fishing port. Limited facilities for pleasure craft. Fresh fish landed at the criée. Village of Saint-Guénolé has bakery, small grocery and cafés.
Ashore
Phare d'Eckmühl 2 km south, open to visitors, 307 steps to the top with views over the Pointe de Penmarc'h. Prehistoric menhirs of Kerscaven nearby. GR 34 coastal path runs along the rock shore.
History
Penmarc'h was a wealthy cod-fishing base in the 15th and 16th centuries, exporting salt cod to Spain and Portugal. The Phare d'Eckmühl was built in 1897, funded by Adélaïde Louise d'Avout in memory of her father, marshal of the Empire.
