Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the E out of Le Guilvinec or from the W out of Penmarc'h. The coast here is fringed with drying rocks and the swell sets strongly onshore in any southerly weather. Daylight approach only, watch for the fishing fleet heading in and out of Le Guilvinec, the third-largest fishing port in France by landings.
Practical
No services at the mooring. Le Guilvinec-Léchiagat 1.3 nm E offers a full marina with water, electricity, fuel and chandlery. Penmarc'h 1.8 nm W for shops and fuel.
Ashore
The Phare d'Eckmühl, commissioned in 1897 and standing 65 m tall at Saint-Pierre on the Pointe de Penmarc'h, is open to visitors and climbs to a panoramic platform. The daily auction at Le Guilvinec starts around 16:30 when the langoustine boats return and can be watched from the Haliotika viewing gallery.
