Guide
Approach and anchoring
Battery Creek branches off the Beaufort River, which carries the main ICW route between Hilton Head Island and Charleston. The creek gives easy access to Beaufort's network of tidal rivers.
Practical
Sand and mud bottom with good holding. Sheltered from the northern and southern quarters; tidal current runs hard, so allow swinging room. Safe Harbor Port Royal Landing lies 1.8 miles north-east; Lady's Island Marina is 3.5 miles north-east.
Ashore
Port Royal keeps a working shrimp-trawler fleet and runs a public boardwalk and observation tower over the salt marsh at the foot of town. Historic Beaufort, with its 18th and 19th-century waterfront houses, lies a short run up the Beaufort River.
