Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter between Klas and Colvos Rocks from the north, the safest line and well marked. Stay north of the red and green pile mark near Tala Point on the way in. Unmarked Snake Rock dries near the west shore and is tricky at low water. A 5-knot speed limit applies south of a line due east from Burner Point.
Practical
Anchoring permitted in 12 to 15 metres on a mud bottom, with good holding and room for many boats. Fresh water is available. Port Ludlow Marina lies 0.2 miles to the north-east with pump-out, shore power, laundry and showers.
History
Captain William Sayward and John Thorndyke built a steam sawmill on Ludlow Bay in 1852. Pope and Talbot bought the mill at auction in 1879 and ran it as the Puget Mill Company, cutting around 125,000 board feet of lumber a day and building ships until the late 1800s.
