Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Gulf of Lion through the main marked entrance of La Grande-Motte marina, then follow the inner channels to the Grégau basin. Beware of tramontane gusts at the entrance. VHF 9.
Practical
Berths on pontoons with water and electricity. The main capitainerie of La Grande-Motte handles visitor allocation. Fuel berth at the main marina, along with a chandlery, travel-lift and boatyard.
Ashore
The seafront of La Grande-Motte with its pyramidal flats is a ten-minute walk. The long sandy beach begins at the harbour arm and runs eastwards for several kilometres. Market on Thursday and Sunday mornings at Place du Marché, 500 m from the basin.
History
La Grande-Motte was built from scratch from 1965 onwards as part of the Mission Racine development of the Languedoc coast, with the pyramid-shaped blocks designed by architect Jean Balladur. The town was awarded the Patrimoine du XXe siècle label in 2010.
