Approach and anchoring
Straightforward approach from the south, entrance between two jetties with red and green lights. Max draught 3 m. Watch for the mistral and tramontane funnelling from the NW across the gulf. VHF 9. Fuel berth at the marina entrance, diesel and petrol.
Practical
1547 berths, harbour office open year round. Water, electricity at the pontoons. Showers and toilets in the sanitary blocks. Supermarket 400 m from the port, all shops in the resort centre at 300 m.
Ashore
Sandy beach directly east of the harbour, 200 m on foot. Architectural walking tour of the Balladur pyramids, labelled 20th century heritage by the French Ministry of Culture in 2010. Cycle path along the coast to Le Grau-du-Roi, 6 km west.
History
La Grande Motte was built from 1965 as part of the Racine plan to develop the Languedoc coast. Architect Jean Balladur designed the resort around pyramid forms inspired by Teotihuacan. The marina opened in 1969.
