Approach and anchoring

Enter from the Yonne at Laroche-Migennes and pass lock 113Y Epineau, then join the Canal de Bourgogne at PK 0. Gauge Freycinet, 38.5 metres by 5.05 metres. Air draught 3.40 metres. VNF navigation hours, lock chain from Laroche toward Migennes.

Practical

Pontoons for around 40 boats with water and electricity. Diesel available at the on-site fuel berth, one of the few fuel points on this canal. Capitainerie, crane, and boatyard services on the quay. Bakery, supermarket and SNCF station within 800 metres, direct train to Paris-Bercy.

Ashore

Canal de Bourgogne towpath as a greenway, passable on foot or by bike. Joigny 4.8 NM W is a medieval town with timber-framed houses and Cotes de Saint-Jacques vineyards. Auxerre 20 km upstream has the Cathedrale Saint-Etienne and Abbaye Saint-Germain. Chablis wine villages 25 km east by road.

History

Migennes grew as a railway town around the Laroche-Migennes junction opened in 1855 on the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee line. The port developed at the Canal de Bourgogne entrance built by VNF to link the Yonne, Seine basin, to the Saone at Saint-Jean-de-Losne.

Story

The Canal de Bourgogne starts here at PK 0 and runs 242 km to Saint-Jean-de-Losne on the Saone, crossing 189 locks and the 3 333 metres long Pouilly-en-Auxois tunnel.
