Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north along the coast of Belle-Île, keeping clear of the off-lying rocks typical of the island's north shore. Rock and weed bottom; drop only on clear sand patches and dive the anchor if visibility allows. Shelter from NE through E to SE behind the cliffs; fully open to N and W, making the bay untenable in northerlies or westerly swell.

Practical

Fair-weather day anchorage only. No facilities. Sauzon 2.4 nm NE is a drying harbour with visitor moorings, bakery and restaurants; Port du Palais 4.1 nm E is the main harbour of Belle-Île with full services, fuel and ferry link to Quiberon.

Ashore

GR 340, the Belle-Île coastal path, runs along the clifftop above the anchorage, linking Sauzon west to Pointe des Poulains, a headland marked by the lighthouse and the former fort of Sarah Bernhardt who owned the site from 1894.
