Approach and anchoring
The Canal de Montech, a branch of the Canal de Garonne, links Montech to Montauban across 11 km and 10 locks. Maximum draught 1.4 metres, air draught 3.3 metres. Operated by VNF, locks automatic on demand. Arrival at the terminal basin in town.
Practical
Quay with water and electricity bollards. Capitainerie open in season. Covered market halls Victor Hugo at 400 metres, full supermarket at 600 metres. Train station with direct TER link to Toulouse at 800 metres from the port.
Ashore
Place Nationale, a square built in red brick and rebuilt after the 1614 fire, lies 500 metres from the port. Musée Ingres Bourdelle in the former bishop's palace on the Tarn at 600 metres, dedicated to painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres born in Montauban in 1780. Montech pente d'eau 5.3 NM SW, a disused water slope that replaced five locks from 1974 to 2009.
