Anchorage off the south-west point of Port-Cros island in the Parc national de Port-Cros, sand bottom.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the S with the point clearly visible. Protection from the NE and E only. Exposed to mistral and to W and SW swell. Port-Cros village lies 0.7 nautical miles to the NE, L'Ayguade du Levant 3 nautical miles E.

Practical

Anchoring rules of the Parc national apply. Use of dedicated eco-moorings where provided, prohibition on anchoring in Posidonia meadows. No services at the point itself. Shops, restaurant and water at Port-Cros village.

Ashore

Footpath network of the national park starts at Port-Cros village. The sentier des crêtes climbs to Fort de l'Estissac and Fort du Moulin, both built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Underwater discovery trail at Plage de la Palud, about 1.5 km from the village.

History

Port-Cros was designated a French national park in 1963, one of the first marine national parks in Europe. The island's forts were built under François Ier and reinforced under Richelieu to guard the Hyères roadstead.
