Charter fishing marina at the north end of the Marc Basnight Bridge, on Oregon Inlet south of Nags Head, North Carolina.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Oregon Inlet is the only sound-to-ocean opening between Virginia and Cape Hatteras. It is prone to severe shoaling and shifting channels, with depths over the bar that change after every storm. Local knowledge is needed, and the federal channel has at times been closed to boats drawing more than 2 feet.
Practical
A full-service base with one of the largest charter fleets on the East Coast, around 48 boats running offshore, nearshore and inshore trips year round, weather permitting. Fuel, provisions, a tackle shop and a restaurant operate from a two-storey building raised 11 feet above ground. Telephone 252 441-6301.
