History
A first Northport Yacht Club was launched on 4 July 1899 on Bayview Avenue. That club closed in 1925, and the present club traces back to the Independent Yacht Club, renamed Northport Yacht Club in 1927. A new clubhouse went up in 1948. The club runs a junior sailing programme on Long Island Sound.
