Approach and anchoring
Reached by the Canal des Vosges, formerly called Canal de l'Est branche Sud. Speed limited to 6 km/h. Standard Freycinet gauge applies: locks of 38.5 by 5.05 metres, air draught around 3.5 metres, maximum draught about 1.8 metres. Locks on this section are automated.
Practical
Short halt for canal cruisers, no full marina services. Village of Nomexy adjoins the canal. Next halts on the canal are Charmes at 5.4 NM to the NW and the mooring known as Stone Wall at 4 NM to the NW.
Ashore
Village centre of Nomexy within walking distance of the canal, with basic shops. Voie verte des hautes vosges cycle path follows the canal, linking Épinal around 12 km to the south and Charmes about 10 km to the north.
History
Nomexy grew as a textile town in the 19th century around a cotton-spinning mill founded in 1822 by the Gos family, one of the largest in Lorraine before the industry declined in the 20th century.
