Approach and anchoring
Freycinet gabarit waterway, 38.5 m locks operated by VNF remote control with a télécommande collected at the nearest lock. No tide, no current to speak of outside flood periods. Depth in the canal bief of 2.20 m.
Practical
Quay with mooring bollards, water and electricity, pump-out. Small craft and hire boats only, commercial traffic has largely gone. Supermarket and boulangerie in Charmes town at 500 m, railway station on the Nancy to Epinal line.
History
Charmes sits on the canalised Moselle, upstream section of the through-route from the Meuse to the Saône via the Canal des Vosges. The town was almost entirely rebuilt after the First World War, when it stood on the front line during the battle of the Mortagne in August 1914.
