Longreach Marina
- Type
- Harbour
Small marina on the tidal Maurice River at Bivalve, just south of Port Norris in southern New Jersey, about 1.4 miles up from Delaware Bay.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Delaware Bay through Maurice River Cove and the buoyed river channel. The lower Maurice River is shoal in places and best entered with a rising tide. Two further marinas, Port Norris Marina and Haase's Marina, lie within a mile to the north-east.
Practical
The marina offers berths, fuel, marine supplies, repair and maintenance work, and bilge and waste pump-out. Boat hire and safety instruction are also available on site.
History
Bivalve was the centre of the Delaware Bay oyster trade. From the late 19th century its rail-served wharves shipped oysters dredged by the local sailing fleet, and the surviving sheds now house the Bayshore Center and the schooner A. J. Meerwald.
