Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south through a rocky zone scattered with above-water and awash heads. Keep the cardinal and isolated-danger marks of the Îles Bruzzi and Pointe de Capineru clearly identified before closing the coast. Anchor on rock and coarse sand by 4 to 8 metres, holding uneven. Exposed to westerly and southerly swells.

Practical

Water point ashore. No fuel or marina services. Pianottoli-Caldarello marina 3.2 NM to the north-west, commercial port of Bonifacio 3.4 NM to the south-east.

Ashore

Beach of La Tonnara at the head of the bay, with a seasonal restaurant. Remains of the Genoese tuna trap on the southern shore. Sentier du littoral running south towards the Îles Bruzzi, a listed Natura 2000 site.

History

The name comes from the tonnara, a seasonal tuna-fishing installation operated here from the Genoese period until the 20th century. The trap used fixed nets anchored off the coast to catch bluefin tuna on their spring migration.
