Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Adour, tidal influence reaches this reach from Bayonne. Strong ebb currents on the river, plan the passage around slack water. No marked channel beyond the navigable Adour; stay in mid-stream away from the banks.
Practical
Short-stay pontoon, limited facilities. Village shops and the Relais de l'Adour restaurant in Sainte-Marie-de-Gosse. Nearest fuel and larger marinas downstream towards Bayonne or upstream at Port des Gaves Réunis, 5.7 NM east.
Ashore
Basse vallée de l'Adour walking and cycling circuit departs from the village, around 15 km along the alluvial plain. Barthes, seasonally flooded meadows along the river, are a feeding ground for herons and migratory birds. Peyrehorade and its medieval castle at around 10 km upstream by road.
History
Since the opening of the Boucau Neuf at Bayonne in 1578, the Adour was developed for upstream navigation, and Sainte-Marie-de-Gosse stood among the right bank quays used for freight between Bayonne and Saint-Sever until the 19th century.
