Approach and anchoring
Enter the Adour estuary between the north and south breakwaters of Bayonne, then head upriver about 1 nautical mile. The Montbrun basin is on the right bank on the Anglet side. Strong tidal currents in the estuary, up to 4 knots at springs. VHF 12 for the port of Bayonne.
Practical
Shallow basin with limited draught, mainly for small motorboats and locally based sailing dinghies. Port Adhoc Bayonne-Anglet dry stack at 1.4 nm north for larger boats. Bus line to Bayonne town centre from the nearby avenue.
Ashore
Plage des Cavaliers on the Atlantic coast at 2.5 km, one of the main Anglet surfing spots. Chambre d'Amour cliffs and chapel at 3 km west. Bayonne old town with ramparts by Vauban and the cathedral Sainte-Marie at 4 km upriver.
