Small river marina of 54 berths in the Aure estuary, 4 NM inland from the Baie des Veys on the Normandy coast.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the Baie des Veys through the channel between the Banc du Grand Vey and the Banc de Cardonnet, marked by buoys. The 4 NM river leg up the Aure follows a buoyed channel and must be taken on a rising tide, ideally HW -2h to HW. Call the lock on VHF 72. The lock gives access to the wet basin from HW -1h30 to HW +1h30. Channel dries to mud at low water.
Practical
54 berths in the wet basin. Water and electricity on the pontoon. Toilets and showers at the capitainerie. No fuel berth on site, nearest at Grandcamp-Maisy 4.6 NM NE. Bakery, butcher and small supermarket within 300 m in the town centre.
Ashore
Isigny dairy cooperative, producer of PDO butter and cream, offers tours of its visitor centre 600 m from the port. The town church Notre-Dame, rebuilt after 1944, stands on the main square at 250 m. Utah Beach memorial museum is 15 km by road to the west.
History
Isigny was a cross-Channel trading port from the Middle Ages, shipping butter and cheese to England. The town was destroyed by Allied bombing on 9 June 1944 during the Normandy landings and largely rebuilt in the 1950s. Isigny butter received AOC status in 1986 and PDO status in 1996.
Story
The Disney family name derives from d'Isigny, tracing to Norman ancestors who crossed to England with William the Conqueror in 1066.
