Small rocky islet at the NW tip of the Frioul archipelago off Marseille, inside the Calanques national park.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the W or N clear of off-lying rocks around the islet, use GPS and the 1:50000 chart to stay off the shoals. Anchor on rock close to Pomègues on the E side, holding is poor, prefer the marked sandy patches or park mooring buoys. Sheltered from the S only, fully open to mistral from the NW.
Practical
No facilities. Frioul harbour 1 nm E has 600 berths, water, diesel and the RTM shuttle to Marseille Vieux-Port.
Ashore
The islet is a protected seabird nesting site, landing is forbidden year round. Best used as a lunch mooring in settled weather with a dinghy trip to the Frioul beaches.
Story
The lighthouse on Tiboulen du Frioul, built in 1864, still guides the NW approach to Marseille harbour.
