Anchorage on the south-west side of Île Pomègues, Îles du Frioul, off Marseille, on sand and rock.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south, giving the rocky shore a good berth. Drop the hook in 4 to 8 m on sand patches between rock outcrops; check the set before leaving the boat. Shelter from the mistral blowing from NW, N and NE as well as from W and SW thanks to the island bulk; exposed to southerly and south-easterly swell. Port du Frioul lies 0.6 to 0.7 NM to the NE as refuge.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Dinghy ashore to join the coastal path running across Pomègues and Ratonneau. Provisioning, water and fuel at Port du Frioul to the NE.
Ashore
The Frioul archipelago is part of the Parc national des Calanques. Footpaths cross Pomègues from the anchorage, with the Fort de Pomègues above the cove and the hameau du Frioul at about 1 NM by path for a restaurant and a small shop.
