Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached from the South River by a narrow wooded entrance. The creek winds inland and gives shelter from almost every direction, which makes it a popular hurricane hole on the upper Chesapeake. Sand bottom with good holding.

Practical

Anchoring only, with no facilities on the water. Pocahontas Marina lies 1.1 miles south-west and Londontowne Marina 1.3 miles west for fuel and supplies.

Ashore

The creek borders Quiet Waters Park, a 340-acre county park with paved trails, a car-top boat launch and a dog beach on Harness Creek itself. The park visitor centre has an art gallery, and seasonal concessions rent kayaks and canoes.
