Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the Canal de Briare, which links the Loire at Briare to the Loing at Buges. The halt lies on the through canal, downstream of the disused seven-lock staircase. Standard VNF lock hours apply. Keep to the canal axis, speed limited to 6 km/h.
Practical
Quay mooring alongside, free for short stops subject to local signage. No fuel on site. Village shops a few minutes walk from the quay: bakery, grocery and a couple of restaurants. Water point managed by the commune.
Ashore
The old seven-lock staircase of Rogny, built between 1605 and 1642, stands 200 m from the quay and is classed a Monument Historique since 1983. Footpath along the disused flight, signposted Escaliers de Rogny. Canal towpath cycling route Loire à Vélo connector passes the village.
History
Rogny owes its name to the seven-lock flight commissioned by Henri IV and Sully to cross the watershed between Loire and Seine. The staircase was opened in 1642 and worked until 1887, when six parallel locks replaced it. The original stone chambers still stand as the village's main landmark.
