Guide
Approach and anchoring
The Giraglia lighthouse, built in 1848 on the islet, marks the northernmost point of Corsica. Anchoring is forbidden on the north side: rocky bottom, strong currents between the islet and the mainland, and exposure to the swell from the Ligurian Sea. The pass between Giraglia and the coast must be taken with caution in mistral or libeccio.
Practical
No services. Shelter in Barcaggio 1.3 nm south or Centuri 4.4 nm south-west.
History
The 60 m high tower was raised by Genoese engineers before the French lighthouse replaced it in 1848. The islet belonged to the Republic of Genoa until 1768.
